🎨 Principal Character Artist - AAA Title 🎨

Role Summary

Define quality standards, drive craft excellence, and guide character art direction execution.

Team Composition

• 5–15 Character Artists (Junior, Mid, Senior), plus external/outsource partners.

Teamwork

• Strong collaboration with Art Direction, Lead Character Artist, Tech Art, Rigging, Animation, and Production.

Core Mandate (3 Main Missions)

✨ Quality & Benchmark Ownership

• Define, document, and uphold the visual and technical quality bar for all characters, ensuring alignment with the Art Director’s vision.

💡 Craft Leadership & Problem Solving

• Act as the go-to expert for complex character art challenges (anatomy, materials, realism/stylization, pipeline constraints), setting best practices across the team.

🚀 Pipeline Influence & Innovation

• Collaborate with Tech Art and Leads to evolve workflows, tools, and outsourcing pipelines for scalability and efficiency.

Success Criteria (What are we expecting from this person in the next months)

• Establish and clearly communicate AAA-level character benchmarks (visual targets, documentation, examples).
• Deliver hero-quality characters or prototypes that set the standard for the team.
• Improve team output through high-level feedback, critiques, and art reviews.
• Identify and help resolve pipeline bottlenecks in collaboration with Leads and Tech Art.
• Ensure characters meet both visual excellence and real-time performance constraints.
